Plant Passenger presents an installation of flora & fauna for the Lower Eastside Girls Club’s Summer Soiree to support 6 weeks of Summer Programming for young women.
Presented in partnership with Brooklyn Coachworks and PlantShed NYC.
THE HOST
THE LOWER EASTSIDE GIRLS CLUB
The LESGC is a full-service arts, science and civic engagement Center for Community on Avenue D adjacent to the low-income NYCHA housing projects. The LESGC runs programs that serve girls and young women throughout New York’s five boroughs, and collaborate with a range of National and Global partners.
Since 1996 the Lower Eastside Girls Club has supported young women and gender expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community and the world.
The LESGC serves as a safe haven and hub for space and opportunity for local organizations, expert practitioners, health-based city agencies and institutions, and their talented and resourced-filled community members, to connect, collaborate and serve. The LESGC with their partners create a space of collective healing. Programming includes intergenerational classes in yoga, movement and mindfulness, meditation, nutrition and culinary education, and access to counseling and family and maternity support services including parenting support groups and classes, workforce development and job training.
THE PLANTS
PLANTSHED NYC
For this installation, the plants and flowers were provided by our neighbors at PlantShed NYC.
Since the 1950’s the PlantShed family has been immersed in the floral and botanical community in New York. With each generation, PS strives to make the community stronger and develop a deep understanding and appreciation for current trends, technology and continuing to set the standard for quality and affordability.
THE CAR
1992 LAND ROVER DEFENDER 90
There are a few first class Land Rover customization workshops around in the US, but Brooklyn Coachworks is the best of the best. They specialize in customizing and building quality Land Rovers, and have been in the business for over 20 years. Brooklyn Coachworks was kind enough to lend us a light blue ‘92 beauty for this installation.

After over a year of COVID restrictions, The LESGC girls need Summer fun like never before! With your help, the LESGC will continue to offer a range of in-person and virtual programs that ensure safety and social distancing.
The LESGC summer programs will include Gardening, Art, Music, Photography, Maker, Sewing, paid internship opportunities with Anomaly, clarkmcdowall, MoMA PS1, and the Girls Club through our Youth Participatory Action research and so much more!
